Raiders Sign Brett Balas

P.A. inks goaltender drafted in third round of 2016 WHL Bantam Draft

Prince Albert, SK – The Prince Albert Raiders are proud to announce the signing of goaltender Brett Balas to a Western Hockey League Standard Players Agreement.

The Raiders selected Balas in the third round of the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft in May with the 51st overall pick. The selection was acquired from the Tri-City Americans in a draft-day trade in exchange for ’96-born defenceman Dalton Yorke.

“We are excited to get Brett signed to a WHL contract,” said Raiders director of player personnel Ron Gunville. “Brett has good size and is an athletic goalie who wants to improve and get better every day.”

Hailing from Calgary, Balas played between the pipes for the Calgary Flames Bantam AAA team during the 2015-16 season. In 19 games, he backstopped to his team to nine wins while posting a 2.55 goals-against average and a 0.926 save percentage.

Balas is the fourth member of the Raiders’ 2016 draft class to sign with the team, joining first-round pick Rhett Rhinehart and second-round selections Adam Herold and Eric Pearce.
