Raiders Fall In Pre-Season Opener

Prince Albert, SK – The Prince Albert Raiders surrendered the lead by allowing two third-period goals in a 4-3 loss to open the WHL Pre-Season at the Art Hauser Centre on Sunday afternoon.

The Blades got out to a quick start on Sunday when Ethan Mack knocked a rebound past goaltender Ian Scott just 37 seconds into the contest to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. At the 8:31 mark, Nikita Krivokrasov tied the game when his shot from the blue line fooled Blades goaltender Nolan Maier.

In the second, the Blades restored the lead on a two-on-one rush finished by Arjun Atwal into the empty side of the net. The Raiders responded two goals in 68 seconds. First, Spencer Moe finished off a cross-crease pass from birthday-boy Adam Kadlec. Then, D-Jay Jerome solved goaltender Koen MacInnes for a shorthanded marker to put the Raiders up 3-2 heading into the third.

Payton McIsaac tied the game for Saskatoon at the 7:38 mark of the third. With just 1:49 to play, Michael Farren’s shot squeaked through Scott to give the Blades the lead for good.

Scott, who was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the summer’s NHL Entry Draft, stopped 24 shots in a losing effort. MacInnes made 24 saves in the win. Maier stopped three of the four shots he faced in his seven minutes of relief.

The Raiders are back in action on Friday night when the Blades head back up Highway 11 for another WHL Pre-Season tilt. Puck drop is at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the Raider Office or the box office.

The 2017-18 WHL Regular Season begins on Friday, September 22 when the Raiders host the Moose Jaw Warriors in the first half of a season-opening home-and-home series. Game time is 7 p.m. Single game tickets are available on Tuesday morning.
