Meunier accepts WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement with Raiders

The Prince Albert Raiders have announced the signing of Ty Meunier to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement. Meunier was the seventh overall pick in the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft.

“I’ve heard really great things about the organization,” Meunier said. “I’ve heard it’s a great hockey town and that the rink fills up and it’s loud every night. It’s an honour to be selected and to sign with this organization.”

Meunier was selected after Daxon Rudolph and Riley Boychuk, who were picked first and second overall by the Raiders. He says the opportunity to get to play with them, as well as getting the chance to play alongside Ryder Ritchie, Cole Peardon and the rest of the young roster, makes him excited for what may come in a couple of years.

“Everyone has been saying that this team will be really good in a couple of years. I’m really looking forward to getting a chance to play with those guys. Some of the guys on the team already texted me, and that was great leadership by them. I can tell they’re excited as much as I am to be a part of this team.”

Meunier, a product of St. Albert, Alta., spent the 2021-22 season with his hometown St. Albert Sabres in the U15 ranks. In 32 regular season games, he scored 54 goals and added 34 assists for 88 points. In eight playoff games, he scored another three goals while tallying six assists. While goal scoring is certainly a part of his repertoire, Meunier described who he truly is, as both a player and a person.

“I’m really dedicated and focused on hockey,” he explained. “I’m driven and dialed in on the job, but I like to have fun at the same time. As a hockey player, I skate well, have good vision, and I put the puck in the net well. I think I make my teammates around me better.”

While he still has another year before he gets a shot at cracking a spot on the roster, Meunier knows that, and understands the work that will need to be put in to give himself a chance to make the team.

“I know there’s still a lot of work that has to be done,” he said. “Just making sure I’m training lots, working out, getting on the ice, and keeping my grades up in school. A lot of people say the work starts now, so I need to make sure that I’m working harder than I was before and stay dedicated to making this team.”

Meunier rounds out the three first round picks to be signed by the Raiders from the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft.
