Welcome to Volume 3 of Flashback Friday Presented By Farm World! This week features three pieces of Raider memorabilia sent in by our fans. As always, you can submit in your favourite pieces of Raider memorabilia by filling out the form here.
Up first is a vintage jersey sent in by Shel Graupe of Edmonton, AB.
“Check out my circa approximately 1984 replica jersey,” wrote Shel. “This is from the days when a team jersey was not something everyone had. It was No. 1 on my Christmas list and, low and behold, Santa came thru! At 12 years old, I felt like a superhero when putting it on. Now, the wife wears it to the rink here in Edmonton when the Raiders visit because I have become much wider. Santa came thru again this year with a new right-fit 50th Season retro jersey!”
Thanks for sending this in, Shel!
Our next item is another retro jersey submitted by Saskatoon’s Lane Rathgeber.
“I got this jersey a year ago and I was so happy when I did! I grew up watching these jerseys on the ice when I went to the Art Hauser Centre for games and it made me fall in love with hockey and the Raiders,” Lane wrote. “Even though I have moved to Saskatoon I am still a Raider fan first and when I got this jersey it brought back all those memories of me as a kid learning to love the game for the first time.”
Great story, Lane!
The last item for this week is a pin courtesy of Michele Rein from Calgary, AB.
“My husband Kenton, a Raiders alum, got this pin in the late 70s while in PA for a peewee hockey tournament. He went to a Raiders game – back in the SJHL days – and of course, never imagining he would one day play for the Raiders.”
Thanks for sending this in, Michele. Kenton suited up for the Raiders from 1985-87. He suited up in 74 games during his time in Prince Albert. He was sleceted by the Buffalo Sabres in the 10th round of the 1986 NHL Entry Draft and played in three seasons of professional hockey after graduating from the Raiders.
That’s all for the this week’s Flashback Friday Presented By Farm World! You can continue to send in your favourite pieces of Raider memorabilia to be featured in future posts. Fill out the form here.
