Stallard’s Late Goal Gives Raiders Win Over ICE
Prince Albert, SK – Overager Jordy Stallard scored the first goal and the final goal in a 4-3 win for the Prince Albert Raiders (21-20-9-2) against the Kootenay ICE (23-28-3-0) on Wednesday night at the Art Hauser Centre.
Stallard’s second goal came with 1:18 remaining in the third break the 3-3 tie. The Raiders have no secured a point in each of their last nine games.
Stallard, a Winnipeg Jets draft pick, opened the scoring 5:39 into the first period. He took a drop pass from Regan Nagy and blasted the puck past Duncan McGovern to put the Raiders up 1-0. Late in the period, the Raiders extended their lead. Curtis Miske was the recipient of a beautiful backdoor pass from Vojtech Budik and the Raiders captain made to mistake to make it a 2-0 game.
Just 23 second after Miske’s goal, the ICE cut into the lead when Cameron Hausinger scored on a breakaway.
In the second, Kootenay tied the game midway through the period. Sebastian Streu beat Ian Scott on a two-on-one rush after his centring pass bounced off a sliding Raiders defenceman and ended up back on his stick.
Late in the second, the Raiders restored their lead. A scramble behind McGovern led to Spencer Moe getting the final touch on the puck before it crossed the line for his seventh goal of the season, giving the Raiders a 3-2 advantage after 40 minutes.
At the 8:04 mark of the third, Alec Baer tied the game again for Kootenay. Just after a power play expired, Baer worked out from behind the net and snapped it past Scott to make it 3-3.
That set up Stallard’s heroics in the waning moments of the game. Cole Fonstad drew three defenders into the corner, leaving Stallard alone in front to take the pass and roof the puck over McGovern.
Scott and the Raiders fended off the ICE for the final 78 seconds of the game as Kootenay pulled its goalie for the extra attacker. The Toronto Maple Leafs draft pick stopped 20 saves to pick up the win for the Raiders. McGovern made 30 saves in a losing effort for the ICE.
The Raiders hit the road to begin their upcoming three-in-three weekend, which starts on Friday night in Swift Current against the Broncos. Puck drop is 7 p.m.
