Prince Albert, SK – The Prince Albert Raiders (5-4-3-0) earned a come-from-behind victory over the Victoria Royals (10-4-1-0) on Wednesday night, knocking off the visitors 4-3 at the Art Hauser Centre.
The Raiders scored three third-period goals to take out the ninth-ranked team in the CHL. It was the Raiders’ second consecutive home win.
The scoring didn’t start until the second period. Regan Nagy’s shot squeaked through goaltender Ian Scott at the 3:04 mark to make it a 1-0 game. Less than a minute later, the Raiders tied it. Jordy Stallard beat Dean McNabb from the slot for his eighth goal of the year. Midway through the second, Igor Martynov restored Victoria’s lead with a deflection on a point shot, putting the Royals up 2-1 after two periods.
In the third, the Raiders tied the game at the 3:34 mark. Cole Fonstad notched his sixth goal of the year to make it 2-2. Less than four minutes later, Devon Skoleski scored a shorthanded goal to give the Raiders their first lead of the game. That lead lasted for 160 seconds. Tyler Soy took a pass from Matthew Phillips and made no mistake in tying the game.
Less than a minute later, the Raiders took the lead for good. Max Martin solved McNabb from the blue line with a screened shot to make it a 4-3 game. The Royals pulled their goalie late, but the Raiders’ defence was up to the task and held onto the one-goal lead.
Scott picked up his second consecutive win by making 20 saves. McNabb stopped 33 Raider shots in the loss.
