Prince Albert, SK – The Prince Albert Raiders (20-20-7-2) scored a season-high nine times in a 9-2 steamrolling of the Edmonton Oil Kings (13-29-5-2) on Saturday night at the Art Hauser Centre.
The Raiders have now won four of their last five games.
Cole Fonstad got the scoring going 9:25 into the first. He blasted a shot past Todd Scott from the left wing on a power play. Less than a minute later, Parker Kelly finished off a three-on-one rush to give the Raiders a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.
Early in the second, the Oil Kings answered. Trey Fix-Wolansky threw a puck to the front of the net that redirected off of Brayden Pachal’s skate and past Ian Scott 28 seconds into the period.
Four minutes later, Fonstad restored the Raiders’ two-goal lead. Vojtech Budik forced a turnover in the offensive zone and set up a streaking Fonstad, who made no mistake for his second goal of the game. Midway through the period, Budik got in the goal column with a shot from a point on the power play, putting the Raiders ahead 4-1.
Late in the frame, Fix-Wolansky brought the Oil Kings back within two. Tomas Soustal forced a turnover at the side of the Raiders goal and centred for the former Raiders list player, making it a 4-2 game after two periods.
It was as close as Edmonton got as the Raiders poured it on in the third period. Kody McDonald scored twice in the first four minutes of the third to put the Raiders ahead 6-2. At the 5:40 mark, Justin Nachbaur got on the board with his fifth of the year to make it a 7-2 game. Then, Zack Hayes found the back of the net at the 8:37 mark.
