Prince Albert, SK – The Prince Albert Raiders claimed import defenceman Sergei Sapego from the Tri-City Americans via import waivers on Tuesday.
Sapego, a product of Vitebsk, Belarus, was selected by the Americans in the second round of the 2017 WHL Import Draft. Listed at 6’0 and 170 lbs, the ’99-born defenceman has two assists in three games with Tri-City this season.
“Sergei is a versatile defenceman,” said Raiders general manager Curtis Hunt. “He has good mobility and a good hockey sense. We expect him in Prince Albert tomorrow.”
Sapego recently represented his country at the 2017 IIHF U18 World Championship in April. In seven games, the defenceman had a goal and an assist.
In a subsequent roster move, the Raiders re-assigned defenceman Tyler Lowe to the Drumheller Dragons of the AJHL. Lowe played in one game for the Raiders this season.
The Raiders are back in action on Friday night when take on the Memorial Cup host Regina Pats at the Art Hauser Centre.
