Moose Jaw, SK – The Prince Albert Raiders (4-10-1-0) fired 42 shots at Zach Sawchenko, but the Moose Jaw Warriors (9-3-2-0) skated away with a 3-1 win at Mosaic Place on Tuesday night.
The Raiders came out of the gate aggressive and applied heavy pressure in the Warriors’ end. They seemed to have a sure goal on a rebound chance for Simon Stransky, but Moose Jaw goaltender Zach Sawchenko dove across the crease and denied the Raiders’ scoring leader. It was the best chance of the period that finished tied 0-0.
In the second, Jayden Halbgewachs opened the scoring. He got through Cameron Reagan before tucking the puck inside the post past Raiders goaltender Nicholas Sanders’ pad. The Raiders tied it up quickly on Luke Coleman’s fourth goal of the season. He fired a one-timer set up from Sean Montgomery past Sawchenko from the top of the slot.
Late in the second, Loch Morrison took a penalty on a Halbgewachs breakaway, setting up a penalty shot. However, Sanders stood tall and kicked out his pad to deny the Warriors a goal, sending the game tied 1-1 to the second intermission.
In the third, Halbgewachs found the back of the net 4:22 into the period for his second of the game. As the clock ticked away, the Raiders pulled their goalie in attempt to tie the game. They buzzed around Sawchenko with Coleman and Brendan Guhle both having quality chances to tie the game, but couldn’t get the puck over the line.
Sanders was strong in goal for the Raiders in his second start since joining the team in October. He made 26 saves in a losing effort.
The Raiders are back in action on Wednesday night when they host the Seattle Thunderbirds at the Art Hauser Centre. Puck drop is 7 p.m. Tickets are available in the Raider Office, by calling 306-764-5348 and by clicking here.
