Prince Albert, SK – The Prince Albert Raiders (11-35-3-2) couldn’t complete the comeback on Friday night against the Lethbridge Hurricanes (27-15-4-3). They were unable to dig out of a 3-0 hole in a 5-4 loss at the Art Hauser Centre.
The Hurricanes jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first five minutes of the opening frame. Tyler Wong scored 3:11 into the game, followed by Brennan Menell 1:43 later. The visitors capped off the period when Menell tallied his second of the game with 3:33 to play. That goal ended Nicholas Sanders’ night after making eight saves.
In the second, Kolten Olynek got the Raiders on the board at the 58 second mark. He deflected Brayden Pachal’s shot past Stuart Skinner to make it a 3-1 game. About a minute later, Lethbridge restored their three-goal advantage on Jadon Joseph’s second goal of the season. Midway through the period, the Raiders scored twice in 14 seconds. First, Cavin Leth blasted a shot past Skinner. Then, Nick Heid deflected Tim Vanstone’s past Skinner to make it a 4-3 game after 40 minutes.
The Hurricanes created some space on the scoreboard again early in the third. Ryan Bowen solved Scott at the 1:46 mark. Midway through the frame, Leth scored his second of the game when he tipped a puck past Skinner as he tried to play the puck. However, 5-4 was as close as the Raiders got. They were unable to find the tying goal with the goalie pulled for the extra attacker.
In relief, Scott stopped 17 shots while picking up the loss. At the other end of the ice, Skinner made 35 saves for the win.
The Raiders return are back at it on Saturday night when they host the rival Moose Jaw Warriors at the Art Hauser Centre. Puck drop is 7 p.m. Tickets are available here, the Raider Office or by calling 306-764-5348.
