Game Preview: Raiders at Moose Jaw



RAIDER REVIEW: The Raiders (19-43-5-2) travel to Moose Jaw for the final time this season when they take on the Warriors (41-19-7-1) at Mosaic Place. On the weekend, the Raiders split a home-and-home series with the Brandon Wheat Kings, culminating in a 5-3 loss on Saturday night in Brandon. Parker Kelly and Cole Fontad put the Raiders ahead 2-0 midway through the first, but Brandon tied the game on a power play. In the second, the Wheat Kings scored three consecutive goals to take a 4-2 lead. In the third, James Shearer extended the Wheat Kings’ lead to three. Kolten Olynek scored with 3:41 remaining in the first to make it a 5-3 game, but the Raiders didn’t get any closer. Ian Scott finished the game with 37 saves in a losing effort.

VS. MOOSE JAW: This is the eighth and final game between the Raiders and the Warriors this season. So far, the Raiders have won two of the seven games this season. In the last game, Parker Kelly had two goals in a 5-4 win over the Warriors on January 28.

POWERING UP: Cole Fonstad’s power-play goal on Saturday night in Brandon gave him four with the man advantage this season, which is tied for second on the team behind Cavin Leth. Fonstad now has 11 power-play points this season, which puts him third on the team behind Max Martin (15) and Simon Stransky (13).

SECOND HALF STRIDE: Parker Kelly continued to pick up points in the second half of the season with a first-period goal on Saturday night in Brandon. Kelly now leads the team in point since January 10 with 14 goals and 12 assists in that time. The late push has him second on the team in scoring with 40 points – four behind leader Simon Stransky.

NEXT UP: The Raiders open a home-and-home series to close out the season in Saskatoon on Friday night against the Blades. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The next Raiders’ home game is also the season finale on Saturday, March 18 when they host the Saskatoon Blades.
