Coleman joins Detroit; Gardiner off to Pittsburgh
Prince Albert, SK – The Prince Albert Raiders would like to congratulate forward Luke Coleman and Reid Gardiner on being invited to NHL development camps.
Coleman was invited to the Detroit Red Wings Development Camp, running from July 6 to 10 in Traverse City, Mich.
“It’s always good to go to a good, established team like that that’s had a lot of success in the past 20 or so years, so I’m really excited to there,” Coleman said.
He added, “I’m excited to get my first shot at an NHL camp.”
In his first full season with the Raiders, Coleman notched 13 goals and 16 assists in 70 games. The Red Deer, AB product added a goal and two assists in the 2016 WHL Playoffs.
“Luke is a big, strong, pro-style winger,” said Raiders Director of Player Personnel Ron Gunville. “His game has improved greatly in the past 18 months. He should be a player who gets better each season and be a physical force.”
Coleman, listed at 6’2” and 193 pounds, was drafted by the Raiders with the 104th pick of the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft. He was called up at the end of the 2014-15 season, scoring a goal during his 14 games on the roster.
Gardiner is off to Cranberry, PA for the Pittsburgh Penguins Prospect Development Camp from June 29 to July 2.
This is the third consecutive season Gardiner has been invited to a development camp. He attended the Minnesota Wild’s camp in 2014 and the Vancouver Canucks’ camp in 2015.
“It’s pretty exciting to go the defending Stanley Cup champions’ development camp,” Gardiner said. “I’m excited to go show the Pittsburgh Penguins what I’m all about and go and try my best and have another good experience.”
“Reid has an elite shot, elite goal-scoring ability and a solid two-way game,” Gunville said.
In his fourth season with the Raiders, Gardiner scored 43 goals and added 49 assists in 71 games. His 92 points place him eighth in WHL scoring for the 2015-16 season. He added three goals and two assists in the Raiders’ playoff campaign.
Gardiner was selected eighth overall in the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft by the Raiders. In 262 games with the club, he has amassed 106 goals and 114 assists.
