Prince Albert, SK – Parker Kelly, Simon Stransky and Tim Vanstone each had a two-point night to lead the Prince Albert Raiders (15-38-3-2) to a 5-3 win over the Brandon Wheat Kings (27-22-6-2) at the Art Hauser Centre on Wednesday night.
It wasn’t a great start for the Raiders. Ty Lewis gave the Wheat Kings a 1-0 lead 46 seconds into the game. The Raiders responded later in the period when Curtis Miske continued his hot streak. He took a feed from Max Martin and snapped the puck past Logan Thompson to tie the game at 1-1.
In the final minute of the first, the Wheat Kings regained their one-goal lead. Nolan Patrick beat Nicholas Sanders with 59 seconds to play. About 30 seconds later, Vanstone’s blast from the top of the slot got through Thompson to make it a 2-2 game after 20 minutes.
Midway through the second, the Raiders took lead. Sean Montgomery walked in shorthanded and snapped the puck past Thompson to put the Raiders up 3-2. Late in the frame, the Wheat Kings tied the game again. James Shearer found the back of the net on the power-play with 1:58 remaining in the second, sending it to the intermission at 3-3.
At the 6:32 mark of the third, the Raiders regained the lead for good. Kelly finished off a nice pass from Vanstone in the corner to put the Raiders up 4-3. Stransky found the empty net with 35 seconds left to round out the scoring.
Sanders stopped 22 shots to pick up his seventh win of the season. Thompson made 30 saves in the loss for the Wheat Kings.
