Raiders Weekly – Dec. 10 to 16
Prince Albert, SK – The Prince Albert Raiders (28-2-0-1) wrap up the first half of the WHL season this week in the final slate of games before the holiday break.
Last week, the Raiders finished the week with a 2-1-0-1 record. Both wins came against the Brandon Wheat Kings by a 5-2 score on Friday and Saturday night.
The Swift Current Broncos ended the Raiders’ losing streak on Tuesday night at the Innovation Credit Union i-plex as Joel Hofer made 52 saves in regulation and overtime and another three in the shootout. The Raiders lost that game 3-2 in the shootout.
On Sunday, the Raiders were again turned aside by a great goaltending performance in a 1-0 shutout loss to the Saskatoon Blades at SaskTel Centre.
This week, the Raiders play two of their three games at home and include two holiday traditions. First, the Raiders host the Edmonton Oil Kings (16-11-3-2) on Wednesday night for our Santa Anonymous Night. Working with the Optimist Club of Prince Albert, the Raiders are collecting toys for donation to the Salvation Army. Game time is 7 p.m.
The Raiders then head to Swift Current on Friday night to open a home-and-home series with the Broncos (5-23-1-1). The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Head to The Rock and Iron Sports Bar to watch the game or listen to Trevor Redden on 900 CKBI.
On Saturday, the Raiders close out the first half of the season with the return leg of the series at the Art Hauser Centre for the team’s Teddy Bear Toss Presented By Canadian Tire. Fans are asked to wrap their stuffed animals in plastic bags before throwing them on the ice after the Raiders’ first goal.
Tickets for both home games are available at raiderhockey.com and the Raider Office. Fans can also pick up discounted tickets for Lake Country Co-op Section at the Food Store in Cornerstone.
Following the break, the Raiders return for the traditional home-and-home series with the Saskatoon Blades, beginning on Thursday, December 27 in Saskatoon.
