Prince Albert, SK – Noah Gregor’s fingerprints were all over the Raiders’ (17-1-0-0) 6-2 win over the Swift Current Broncos (3-15-0-1) on Friday night at the Art Hauser Centre.
The San Jose Sharks prospect had two goals and two assists to lead the offence. Sean Montgomery also had a multi-point effort with a pair of goals.
Gregor got the scoring started in the first period. Martin fanned on a shot, which Gregor collected and snapped a shot past Joel Hofer for his seventh of the year at the 9:46 mark.
The Raiders’ offence was clicking in the first period, firing 19 shots towards the Broncos goal. However, they were only able to get one past the goaltender.
Eight seconds into the second, the Raiders increased their lead. Brett Leason streaked down the wing and centered a pass from behind the goal. Sean Montgomery was in the right place and beat Hofer, who was looking in the other direction.
Less than a minute later, the Broncos got the goal back. Ben King’s shot snuck under the crossbar and past Raiders goalie Donovan Buskey.
Two minutes later, the Raiders restored their two-goal lead. Kody McDonald collected a pass from Nolan Allan in the slot and beat Hofer through a screen, giving the overager a goal in his return to the lineup. Allan’s assist was also his first career WHL point.
Near the end of the second, the two teams traded goals in a 14 second span. First, Eric Houk deked at the net and slid the puck under Buskey to bring his side back within one. After the faceoff, McDonald’s shot from the wing was redirected past Hofer by Justin Nachbaur, making it a 4-2 game after two periods.
Gregor tallied his second of the game 2:11 into the third. Jeremy Masella forced a turnover in the Broncos’ end and got it to the Sharks prospect. Gregor’s wrister beat Hofer again to put the Raiders up 5-2. Late in the third, Montgomery scored his second of the game. From behind the red line, he banked the puck in off of the skate of a Broncos’ defender and past Hofer to round out the scoring.
While earning his third win in his third start of the season, Buskey turned aside 18 shots. Hofer made 37 saves in a losing effort.
The Raiders are back on the ice on Wednesday night when the Medicine Hat Tigers (9-8-0-2) make their last trip to the Art Hauser Centre this season. Tickets are available at the Raider Office and at raiderhockey.com. Game time is 7 p.m.
